RETURN POLICY ON THREAD: Like most needlework retailers, we do not allow returns on thread except when there has been an error on our part. Please keep this in mind before you buy. When in doubt, we recommend you buy and test a small amount prior to ordering larger quantities. We have very low shipping charges of approximately $1.75 for small thread orders to enable you to do this affordably. There are many reasons for this policy, but a primary reason is that once the thread has left our store, we can no longer verify that it has been kept clean and unused, and in most cases, we can no longer tell which dye lot a given thread came from. Therefore you can be confident that the thread you buy from us is clean, unused, and that we can send you multiple skeins from a single dye lot when that is important. If you buy thread from a company that accepts returned thread, how do you know where the thread they sell you has been before it gets to you?

MARLITT is a four-stranded rayon thread which is even shinier than silk, and which comes in brilliant, pure colors. This thread is very slippery and has a tendency to tangle, but is much easier to work with if strands are cut, separated, run over a clean damp sponge, allowed to dry and then recombined before use. Several colors of Marlitt were discontinued when this thread was taken over by the Anchor company, but there are still 90 colors available.

DMC Rayon Floss is a 6-ply rayon embroidery thread available in 100 colors, several of which coordinate with DMC cotton floss colors. DMC has announced in 2008 that they will be replacing their rayon floss line with a thread called Satin Floss. The Satin Floss, however, will only come in 36 colors so the majority of colors will be discontinued.

NEON RAYS is a rayon thread in the form of a narrow ribbon. Color cards are available for $12.00 (do not show all colors).

Neon Rays+ is Neon Rays rayon ribbon with the "Plus" of a matching metallic woven into the ribbon. Colors coordinate with similar numbers in Neon Rays, although Neon Rays+ comes in far fewer colors (i.e. NP09 is the color of N09 except with metallic interspersed with the rayon).

RACHEL is a tubular, stretchy ribbon made of 100% nylon. It has a subtle shimmer totally unlike the glitter of metallic threads or the shine of rayon. Because it is translucent (like a nylon stocking) and woven in tube form, you can even insert another thread down the middle of the tube (use a bodkin to insert the thread). Please note that 10 colors of Rachel have been discontinued by the distributor. We still have inventory of some discontinued colors as noted below. Available colors of Rachel are:

OVERDYED RACHEL BY NEEDLE NECESSITIES took regular Rachel one step further by adding multiple shades or colors to a single strand of Rachel. Some of the colors coordinated with Needle Necessities overdyed floss and French wool. Needle Necessities informed us in October 2001 that they phased out Rachel.

RACHELETTE is a thread made of Rachel with a metallic thread inserted through it. Recently the Caron Collection announced their decision to do a major revamp of Rachelette, discontinuing large numbers of colors and creating some new ones. Rather than make this switch, we have decided to just stop carrying this thread. For those who wish, it is VERY simple to make up your own version of this thread by inserting a metallic thread into regular Rachel (easiest using one of our bodkins). The sky is the limit in terms of both colors and weights you can achieve with this (if you want a thinner thread, you can use a thinner metallic; for a heavier weight, you would use a heavier metallic).

DOUBLE-DIPPED RACHEL consisted of one color of Rachel inserted in another color. It has been discontinued by the Caron Collection.

FLAIR is a nylon tube similar to Rachel, but from another company. We offer it so that additional colors will be available to you if you can't find a color you need in Rachel. An actual thread color card which shows 82 of the available colors is $15.00. Available colors of Flair are:

Fuzzy Stuff is a novelty thread that is very hairy with a slightly shiny look. It is a good choice for making hairy spiders, furry animals, and even can be used for fur or beards. One strand is used on 18 mesh canvas while it can be doubled for a 13 mesh canvas. Fuzzy Stuff is available in the following colors:

VELOUR 18 SHADOWDYED by Needle Necessities is an overdyed velvety thread made of nylon (colors are monochromatic). This thread is NOT colorfast. In September of 2007 this company announced they are going out of business and their thread will not be available from us once our existing supply is gone. Colors are:
